RINGWORM

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is ring worm?

Ringworm is not a worm at all.  Ringworm is a skin infection caused by a dermatophyte (“skin loving”) fungus.  The fungi which cause ringworm in horses include the Microsporum and Trychophyton species, which can infect not only horses but other animal species, including humans.  Ringworm is highly contagious and entire populations of animals; Horses, dogs, and cats, can become affected by an outbreak.

How does it occur?
Ringworm is transmitted from horse to horse by direct contact , grooming equipment, stalls, trailers or any surface an infected horse has come in contact with.  The fungi are very resistant to environmental conditions and can live for years on inanimate objects.

What does ringworm look like?
The skin lesions usually start as small raised spots from which the hair is lost.  These spread and usually become scurfy, or a thick, dry crumbly scab may form.  Sometimes the lesions are sore and sometimes itchy.  Really itchy.  In many cases there may only be a couple of lesions, but if left untreated and especially if spread by grooming, the problem can become extensive.

How is ringworm treated?

Ringworm should be treated like any other fungus. Apply the EQUIDERMA™ ANTI BACTERIAL /ANTI-FUNGAL Skin Lotion every day until the lesions are completely gone and the hair has begun to grow back. In most cases you will see the hair begin to grow back within two treatments.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PUT YOURSELF OR YOUR HORSE THROUGH DIFFICULT DAILY BATHS, OR THE USE OF HARMFUL ANTI-BIOTICS or STEROIDS. EQUIDERMA WILL GET RID OF RAIN ROT IN RECORD TIME WITH VERY LITTLE EFFORT AND WITH NO PAIN TO YOUR HORSE.

WE HAVE SO MUCH FAITH IN EQUIDERMA PRODUCTS THAT WE OFFER YOU THIS GUARANTEE…

THE TREATMENT:

1. Get the skin really clean so that you have a clean playing field on which to do battle. Use EQUIDERMA NEEM OIL THERAPEUTIC SHAMPOO. Lather the horse, let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse. It is not necessary to use strong chemical shampoos.

2. Next, apply EQUIDERMA SKIN LOTION. EQUIDERMA ANTIBACTERIAL-ANTIFUNGAL is a leave-on lotion that will do the work for you.

WE GUARANTEE YOU WILL SEE A DRASTIC DIFFERENCE WITH THE FIRST TREATMENT OR WE WILL SEND YOUR MONEY BACK!

3.The dermatophiles on the horse's skin must be killed. This can be accomplished by reapplying EQUIDERMA every other day until the organism is killed. This will be accomplished in two to three treatments.
